LAS VEGAS -- Retired boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. is accused of stiffing a Las Vegas jewelry company for $1.4 million of the cost of a diamond-encrusted necklace he bought the weekend after his last fight, according to a lawsuit filed in Nevada state court. It wasnt immediately clear Tuesday if Mayweather or his legal representatives had been served with the civil lawsuit, filed Sept. 23 in Clark County District Court in Las Vegas.Mayweather Promotions chief executive Leonard Ellerbe and Mark Tratos, an attorney in Las Vegas who represents Mayweather in civil cases, didnt immediately respond to messages. The Jewelers Inc. said in court filings that Mayweather paid $1 million when he bought the $3 million necklace consisting of 72 round-cut diamonds in September 2015, and that he made six subsequent $100,000 payments. Each diamond was about 3 carats, according to the lawsuit. It alleges that Mayweather hasnt made a payment since May, and accuses him of breach of agreement and unjust enrichment.Ellerbe told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that Mayweather had no comment about the lawsuit.Mayweather, now 39, was listed by Forbes as the worlds highest-paid athlete in 2015, making about $300 million. He also topped the Forbes list in 2012, at $85 million, and 2014, at $105 million.Estimates were that Mayweather earned a stunning $220 million for his unanimous decision over longtime nemesis Manny Pacquiao from the Philippines in May 2015. He was reported to have taken home another $32 million when he defeated Andre Berto on Sept. 12, 2015, at the MGM Grand arena.Mayweather finished his career undefeated, at 49-0 with 26 knockouts. The lawsuit was the second in 11 years filed against Mayweather over jewelry. Records show that a 2005 civil action filed by another jeweler alleging that he failed to pay $124,000 for more than 20 pieces of jewelry was settled in 2006. Commissioner John Swofford should be smiling as his league is so deep and loaded. The ACC has a number of legitimate contenders to win the conference crown. You could see eight or nine teams make it to the Big Dance based on returning talent and incoming stars. It will be fun to watch again.Think about how good this league is. Start with the Dukies, a team that many experts feel will cut down the nets at the Final Four. Grayson Allen will contend for All-Solid Gold status nationally. Amile Jefferson is back from injury and will be a factor. Then there is the outstanding recruiting class with?Jayson Tatum, Harry Giles, Frank Jackson and Marques Bolden. It will be a special season for the Cameron Crazies.Roy Williams has a solid group returning to Chapel Hill. Look for big things from?Joel Berry II, Justin Jackson and Kennedy Meeks, the latter made a wise decision to return to school instead of going pro.Tony Bennett always gets the most out of his talent, and Virginia will be tough once again. London Perrantes provides leadership and experience from the backcourt. The Cavaliers have several newcomers, including Memphis transffer Austin Nichols, and he should put up big numbers.dddddddddddd.Never count out Rick Pitino and Louisvillle despite losing his top scorers from a season ago. Donovan Mitchell,?Raymond Spalding?and?Quentin Snider?are veterans who will be called upon to step?up?their game on a consistent basis.Florida State has?Dwayne Bacon and Xavier Rathan-Mayes back in Tallahassee. Leonard Hamilton believes he has an NCAA tournament team.Syracuse recently added transfer Andrew White from Nebraska, where he averaged almost 17 points per game last season. Tyler Lydon is a player to watch for the Orange as he takes advantage of a big opportunity to score.Dont forget about the likes of Notre Dame, an improving Virginia Tech team under Buzz Williams, and a Miami team that had a super recruiting class as you see how loaded the ACC is.For fans of Pittsburgh and Georgia Tech, with new coaches in Kevin Stallings and Josh Pastner, my advice is patience. It will not be easy going against this lineup of talented teams. The ACC should have another super season ahead. ' ' '
