ST. LOUIS -- The St. Louis Blues know one of the biggest things missing in their games so far this season has been the ugly goals, the rebounds and deflections that come from putting a lot of traffic in front of the net. They finally were able to score some of those goals in a 4-1 win over Buffalo on Tuesday, and they hope they can do it again on Thursday night when they host the San Jose Sharks. It will be the first contest between the two teams since the Sharks eliminated the Blues in six games in the Western Conference final in May.Thats always the goal, left winger Jaden Schwartz said of scoring ugly goals. I think we needed to be better with the puck everywhere, especially through the neutral zone and tighten up defensively a little bit and check for our chances a little more. I thought we did a good job, I thought we created a lot of turnovers on the forecheck that allowed us to get a lot of O-zone time.Neither right winger Alexander Steen nor right winger Vladimir Tarasenko participated in the Blues practice on Wednesday. Steen had to leave Tuesday nights game after a hard check into the boards, and Tarasenko also was banged up in the contest.Coach Ken Hitchcock called it a maintenance day for both players.Hopefully well have both of them in the lineup fresh and ready to go, Hitchcock said. (Tarasenko) needed a maintenance day. Both guys needed it. We decided to switch it up and have a full practice today and it wouldnt have done them any good so, well get them ready for tomorrow. Both guys. The Sharks suffered a 1-0 loss at Carolina on Tuesday night, with coach Peter DeBoer saying the team did not generate enough scoring chances. You have to put pucks in good places and then you have to win battles, and we didnt do enough of either, DeBoer said.DeBoer tried to shake up his forward lines in the third period and it is possible they could go with different combinations against the Blues.I dont think anyone up front was generating much, center Logan Couture told the San Jose Mercury-News. When thats the case, coach usually tries to get a spark somehow and he certainly has the right to do that. The Blues have made a lot of changes since they lost played the Sharks, with captain David Backes signing with Boston as a free agent, Troy Brouwer joining Calgary and Brian Elliott shuffled to the Flames, but the players who remain will be motivated for the game.Theyre still one of the teams we have to worry about in this conference, defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk said. They didnt lose many guys from last year and have a very solid forward group. Im sure theres going to be a little bit of a bad taste in our mouth from last year.Harry Kane Jersey . With Parker having a quiet game for once, Nicolas Batum and Boris Diaw provided the scoring as France won its first major basketball title by beating Lithuania 80-66 on Sunday. It was a victory that ended a decade of frustration for Parker and a talented French generation, which lost the final against Spain two years ago and took bronze in 2005. John Stones Jersey . He wants players making quicker cuts on offense. He doesnt want to call a play every time his team has possession.I want our guys to be able to play with freedom and structure and make plays, but with that comes lots of responsibility, Pastner said. Theyve got to understand how to play the right way.Josh Okogie scored 18 points, Ben Lammers added 15 points and Pastner won his Georgia Tech debut with a 70-55 victory over Tennessee Tech on Friday night.Quinton Stephens finished with 12 points and six rebounds for the Yellow Jackets.Lammers output was a career high, as were his five blocks. Okogie was 7 for 9 from the field and had five rebounds.Micaiah Henry finished with 15 points and JaCardo Hawkins added 10 points for Tennessee Tech.Pastner went 167-73 and led Memphis to four NCAA tournaments in seven seasons before joining the Yellow Jackets last spring. Hes beginning a major rebuilding project with one of the nations least experienced rosters.Pastner had four players making their first college start -- Lammers, Okogie, Abdoulaye Gueye and Justin Moore. Stephens started 14 games last season. The Jackets were without Josh Heath, who was suspended for the first four games of the season for violating team rules. Tadric Jackson missed the game with a hamstring injury.Georgia Tech never trailed after Stephens jumper gave the Jackets a one-point lead in the first 5 minutes of the first half.Okogies 3-pointer in front of the Jackets bench pushed the lead to 61-48 with 3:59 remaining. Stephens 3 made it 64-50 a couple of possessions later.Pastner has high expectations for Okogie, who starred at nearby Shiloh High School in Snellville.dddddddddddd Okogie played 21 minutes, about 10 minutes less than the other starters because he picked up three fouls in the first half. Pastner said two of them were 94 feet from the basket.I think Josh Okogie has a chance down the road to be a really good ACC player, Pastner said. Im a big, big fan of Josh Okogie. I just didnt think he played real well tonight. He can play way better. Hes got that ability.Tennessee Tech guard Aleksa Jugovic began the night shooting 39.4 percent in 259 career attempts on 3s, but he went just 1 for 6 beyond the arc and finished with five points.BIG PICTURETennessee Tech: The Golden Eagles went 19-12 last season, 11-5 in the Ohio Valley Conference. They were picked in preseason to finish fourth in the East Division for the second straight year.We lost three really good seniors last year off a good team, coach Steve Payne said. They are hard to replace. The guys that were our go-to were offensive guys, and everybody is playing a new role or we have some new guys playing.Georgia Tech: The departures of last years most productive players -- Marcus Georges-Hunt, Adam Smith, Charles Mitchell and Nick Jacobs -- left a major scoring and rebounding void, about 53 points and 21 boards per game. Pastner said earlier that he likely will change the starting lineup a few times in November to decide who best fits the role.UP NEXTTennessee Tech: Hosts Central Michigan on Monday.
