AUBURN, Ala. -- Auburn coach Gus Malzahns puzzling quarterback rotation against Clemson didnt work out at all like he had hoped. The offense sputtered and gave away chance after chance to topple one of the best teams in the nation. For the Tigers second game against Arkansas State, that plan was scrapped. Malzahn gave Sean White the reins, and White -- along with the rest of the Auburn offense -- took advantage. He threw for 244 yards and three touchdowns on 17-of-23 passing, and the Tigers picked up 462 yards on the ground en route to a 51-14 demolition of Arkansas State on Saturday night. The 706 total yards Auburn gained is the second-highest in school history, behind only the 712 the Tigers racked up against Western Carolina in 2013.We came out and we looked like an Auburn offense for the first time, Malzahn said. Just looking at it, without looking at the film, I can tell they definitely improved.Kerryon Johnson and Kamryn Pettway each tallied over 100 yards on the ground, the first time two Auburn players have eclipsed the century mark in a game since 2014.Johnson added a pair of touchdowns, the first of which was a dazzling, cross-field, electrifying run that included a hurdle over an Arkansas State defender and a dive across the pylon.KJ, hes got some unique abilities, Malzahn said. He can do some things that can kind of wow you at times, and of course, that was really impressive. There were some good blocks, too, but he really made something out of nothing on that one. That was one of a handful plays that elicited flashbacks to the explosive Auburn offense of 2013 and 2014. The most impressive one, however, came from a freshman.Receiver Kyle Davis hauled in a falling, one-handed catch that bore a striking resemblance to New York Giants receiver Odell Beckhams similar catch, one that has become iconic.Arkansas State managed to scrape across a pair of touchdowns to go with the Red Wolves 326 total yards, but they couldnt find much room to maneuver against a vastly improved Auburn defense. We felt like if we could hang close, stay close, keep it a game, that potentially third or fourth quarter some of our quickness out in space might give us a chance to be in the mix, said Arkansas State coach Blake Anderson. You had to make it a 60-minute game and the second quarter just got away from us, and at that point it just not the same conversation anymore. The Tigers tacked on points in 10 of their 12 drives, and at one point scored a touchdown on five consecutive possessions. One of those touchdowns came on a fake field goal, which holder Tyler Stovall and kicker Daniel Carlson executed to perfection.THE TAKEAWAYAuburn rights the ship and quiets steadily rising concerns about the Tigers offensive woes and, perhaps more importantly, Malzahns job security.Arkansas States troubles in the secondary -- and the defense as a whole -- continue to plague the Red Wolves, who have now been outscored 82-24 in their first two games this season.POLL IMPLICATIONSWith the way SEC teams have been struggling against inferior opponents, a wire-to-wire victory for Auburn might be enough to bump them into the Top 25.QUOTABLEIt was good to go out there and ball out with my teammates, said Auburn defensive end Carl Lawson. Im glad we got a team win today. We need to keep improving, but Im so happy we got a win for Auburn today.UP NEXTAuburn hosts No. 20 Texas A&M on Saturday.Arkansas State travels to Utah State on Friday. Wholesale Womens Jerseys . John Tavares, Thomas Vanek and Kyle Okposo were also being counted on to slow down sizzling Rangers forward Rick Nash. That plan didnt go so well early. After blowing out then-No. 2 Florida State 63-20 last week, the third-ranked Louisville Cardinals suddenly finds themselves not only in the hunt for an Atlantic Coast Conference title, but are also being looked at as a strong national championship contender as they travel to Huntington, W. Va., to take on the Marshall Thundering Herd at Joan C. Edwards Stadium on Saturday night. The Cardinals (3-0), who opened last spring with 100-to-1 odds to win the national title, are all the way down to 5-to-1 after last weekends nationally televised smack-down of the Seminoles. And quarterback Lamar Jackson, not exactly a household name a few weeks ago, adorns this weeks cover of Sports Illustrated and is leading a number of Heisman Trophy polls. But as coach Bobby Petrino made clear to his team in the following days, its time to move on and focus on the rest of the schedule, beginning with Saturdays road trip to Marshall. We did a great job and it was a great win for us, but we havent reached our goals, Petrino said. Were only three games into the season and we have to get back to work. That focus isnt going to be easy. The Cardinals handed the vaunted Seminoles one of the most lopsided losses it its history. Dalvin Cook was held to 54 yards on the ground, while Deonte Francious was sacked five times and threw for just 101 yards. Our plan going in was to set the edge and get guys playing gaps ... dont give guys many seams, Petrino said. For the most part, we did a great job with that, and that put them behind the sticks.Im going to tell you what my team told me, Jackson said. They were like, we arent taking our foot off the gas. You know that goes for anybody we are playing -- trying to score every time we get the ball.Jackson is putting up video game like numbers so far this season. He has 10 rushing touchdowns through three games, including four each in the victories over Syracuse and Florida State. Hes averaging 9.5 yards per carry. Oh, and hes also a dangerous pocket passer, as his 411 yards against Syracuse two weeks ago can attest.dddddddddddd Hes also third in the country in yards per pass attempt at 11.1.Its hardly a one-man show, however. Running back Brandon Radcliff had another 100-yard game against Florida State, with 118 yards and a touchdown. Hes averaging 11.4 yards per carry in 2016, and his 22 career rushing touchdowns are ninth all-time at Louisville. And wide receiver James Quick had seven catches for 122 yards against the Seminoles and now has five career 100-yard receiving games, one of only 12 wide receivers to hit that mark in program history.Marshall enters the week 1-1 after a 65-38 loss to Akron at home last week. Quarterback Chase Litton threw for 413 yards and four touchdowns in the setback.Just know, this Marshall team is not done, Litton promised on the way out of the post-game press conference. The Herd surrendered 379 passing yards, including seven completions of 20 or more yards, had four turnovers and also had a punt blocked. That should bode well for a Louisville offense thats excelled at creating big plays, both on the ground and through the air.Still, Petrino expects the road crowd to be ready to do its best to sway the game in Marshalls favor, remembering his last trip to the university. It was in the second round of the (1987) I-AA playoffs, when I was coaching for Weber State, Petrino said. They were cranked up and ready to go. I remember getting off the bus, and all these people running up to the fence and started yelling at us. So I imagine itll be a pretty good atmosphere. I think its great. Its what we like to do.The Thundering Herd defeated the Cardinals 17-13 in the last meeting between the two schools in 2011 -- the first career start for current Minnesota Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. Louisville has dropped the last four meetings with the Thundering Herd and is looking for its first win in the series since a 36-0 victory in 1981. ' ' '
